Otto Diels Institute for Organic Chemistry - Spectroscopy

The spectroscopic division of the Otto-Diels-Institute for Organic Chemistry is responsible for the spectroscopic characterization of compounds synthesized in all working groups in the department. It is a full service analytical division, covering all standard NMR- and MS-characterisations as well as other  techniques (UVvis, IR, fluorescence spectroscopy, polarimetry), In addition, non-standard techniques are implemented as needed and assistance is provided in all analytical projects regarding planning of appropriate methods, data processing and evaluation. The services of the division are available university-wide as well as to group at other academic or non-academic entities on a fee-basis.

The primary focus of the academic research of the division director, Prof. Frank Sönnichsen, is the application of the extensive arsenal of solution- NMR methodologies to chemical and biochemical problems. Present particular focus is the design and optimization of small bioactive proteins and the photocontrol of the activity.
